Rationing Reigns Over the Reich

During World War Two in Germany (1939-1945) people who had money couldn't just walk into stores and buy things as much as they wanted. At that time most things were rationed, which meant that despite having enough money to buy as much as you could only buy the thing that allowed to .

Rationing involved setting limits on purchasing certain high-demand items. The governments issued a number of “points” to each person, even the babies, which had to be turned in along with money to purchase goods made with restricted items.

Rationing provided the governments with a way to constrain demand, regulate supply, and cap prices, but it didn't totally offset the laws of supply and demand. Black markets often spring up when rationing was effected. These allowed people to trade rationed goods they may not want for one they did.

Rationing was a mean of ensuring the fair distribution of food and commodities when they were scarce. It began after the start of World War Two with petrol and later included other goods such as butter, sugar and bacon. Eventually, most foods were covered by the rationing system with the exception of fruit and vegetables.

The German women were not doing the work of the war, so they’d rather do the farming works, but when there is lass man the women's went in the war.

Over a million were evacuated from towns and cities and had to adjust to separation from family and friends. Many of those who stayed, endured bombing raids and were injured or made homeless. All had to deal with the threat of gas attack, air raid precautions (ARP), rationing, changes at school and in their daily life.

Home Defense and War Economy

Throughout of the war, the British prime minister “Winston Churchills” called for increased the British air raids and to be against the population centers of the Germans, in order to swamp the Germans' right.

War economy is the organization of a country's production capacity and distribution during a time of conflict. A war economy must make substantial adjustments to its consumer production to accommodate defense production needs.

Before World War II, Dresden was called “Florence on the Elbe” and was considered one of the world’s most beautiful cities because of its architecture and art treasures.

Life on the home front during World War II was a significant part of the war effort for all participants and had a major impact on the outcome of the war.
